In 2015, an estimated 30.3 million people of all ages — or 9.4% of the U.S. population— had diabetes.

Diagnosed: 23.1 million people

Undiagnosed: 7.2 million people (23.8% of people with diabetes are undiagnosed)

The percentage of adults with diabetes increased with age, reaching a high of 25.2% among those aged 65 years.

Prevalence of diabetes decreased as education level increased among adults ≥ 18.

Prevalence was highest among American Indians/Alaska Natives (15.1%), non-Hispanic blacks (12.7%), and people of Hispanic ethnicity (12.1%).
